Patna Faces Rising Ganga River Water Levels: District Administration on High Alert

Published on

The Ganga river’s rising water levels have raised serious concerns for the district, as the water has breached the danger mark at several ghats in Patna. The district administration has now entered high alert mode, with growing fears of potential flooding in low-lying areas.

According to reports, water levels at prominent ghats such as Gandhi Ghat have already crossed the danger threshold, and other key locations like Digha Ghat, Danapur, and Maner are witnessing significant and continuous increases. If the situation continues to worsen, many riverside neighborhoods are at risk of being submerged.

In response to the situation, the Patna district administration, in coordination with the State Disaster Management Department, has ramped up monitoring and preparedness efforts. These measures are designed to handle the flood threat and provide relief to those in danger.

Monitoring the Water Levels

Officials are monitoring the water levels at various points around Patna on a 24/7 basis. Special teams are tracking the rise in water levels at critical locations like Gandhi Ghat, Digha Ghat, and others, to assess the risk of flooding. These efforts are crucial as any sudden surge could lead to severe consequences for residents in vulnerable areas.

The water levels have already surpassed the danger mark at several ghats, signaling a growing emergency. Authorities are closely observing the situation, particularly at Digha Ghat, Danapur, and Maner, where the river is surging continuously.

Measures in Place to Prevent Damage

To combat the ongoing threat, the Patna district administration, along with the State Disaster Management Department, has put several preventive measures in place. One of the most critical aspects of this plan is identifying and preparing high-ground locations for emergency use. Authorities have identified 119 high-altitude sites across Patna district. These locations are ready to serve as emergency relief centers, community kitchens, or temporary shelters if residential areas are affected by flooding.

These high-ground sites will act as hubs for disaster relief operations. They are equipped to support the displaced population with food, medical supplies, and shelter in case the water continues to rise.

Readying Rescue and Evacuation Teams

In addition to securing emergency relief centers, the district administration has activated 245 trained sailors for quick response to any rescue or evacuation operations. Boats are strategically positioned throughout Patna, ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice to assist with evacuations. Furthermore, divers are on standby to support underwater search and rescue operations if needed.

State and National Disaster Response Teams Deployed

The situation in Patna has prompted the activation of specialized disaster response teams. Two teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are already stationed in Patna, actively monitoring flood-prone areas and assisting in flood relief efforts.

Additionally, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been stationed in Didarganj. This team is on standby to offer support during emergencies, providing the extra manpower needed if the situation deteriorates further.

Comprehensive Administrative Monitoring

Administrative officials in Patna are working around the clock to ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas. Sub-divisional officers, zonal officers, and local authorities have been instructed to conduct thorough inspections and continuous monitoring of flood zones.

Teams from the Water Resources Department are carrying out regular checks on embankments to ensure they are secure and functioning as intended. Their primary role is to prevent breaches that could exacerbate the flooding situation.

Support for Livestock and Temporary Shelters

Rural areas, especially those on the outskirts of Patna, are also facing the brunt of the rising river levels. The authorities have made arrangements for animal fodder to ensure that livestock is cared for in the event of an emergency. Additionally, plastic sheets have been distributed in rural areas to provide temporary shelter to those who may be forced to relocate due to the rising water.

These efforts are essential in alleviating the difficulties faced by families who are displaced by the floodwaters. Protecting livestock is equally important as it supports the livelihood of many rural families.

24/7 Patna District Disaster Control Center Active

The Patna District Disaster Control Center is operational 24/7, serving as the central hub for all flood relief and rescue operations. The center is continuously monitoring water levels, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with all relevant departments to ensure the safety of Patna’s residents.

Residents who face emergencies or need assistance can reach out to the control center by calling 0612-2210118. The center serves as the main point of contact for all disaster-related inquiries and is actively working to keep citizens informed and supported during the crisis.

Real-Time Updates and Coordination with Authorities

The control center is closely coordinating with various departments, ensuring that timely updates and essential information are provided to the public. Water levels are continuously monitored, and relevant authorities are kept in the loop to ensure a swift response. Additionally, the Patna district administration has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow all safety protocols.

The current situation in Patna calls for urgent attention as the Ganga river’s rising water levels threaten to flood several low-lying neighborhoods. The district administration is fully engaged in managing the crisis, with numerous measures in place to safeguard lives and properties. Through constant monitoring, emergency relief operations, and collaboration with specialized disaster response teams, the authorities are doing everything possible to mitigate the risks associated with the rising river levels.

As the situation develops, it is crucial that residents stay informed and adhere to any instructions from the district administration. The Patna District Disaster Control Center remains the focal point for all relief efforts and is working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the population.

Authorities are hopeful that their preparedness and rapid response will minimize damage, but the next few days will be crucial in determining the course of action. Patna residents are encouraged to remain cautious and ready to move to higher ground if necessary, ensuring the safety of both their families and their belongings.
