Patna Authorities Ban E-Rickshaws Near Patna Junction and Reorganize Auto Stands

Published on

Patna traffic authorities have implemented a new system to ease congestion around Patna Junction by banning e-rickshaws near the station. This is part of a broader effort to improve traffic management in one of the city’s busiest transport hubs. The move aims to streamline traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure smoother movement of vehicles around the area.

New Auto Stand Reorganization

As part of the reorganization, autorickshaws will no longer be allowed to park indiscriminately near Patna Junction or the nearby GPO roundabout. Instead, all autorickshaw services will now operate from two designated stands. These new locations are the Tata Park stand near the Junction roundabout and a newly established railway parking area near the GPO roundabout.

The autorickshaw stand in front of Pal Hotel near the Junction roundabout has now been merged with the Tata Park stand. This stand is currently undergoing expansion to accommodate more vehicles. From Tata Park, autorickshaws will serve various routes, including Kankarbagh, Kadamkuan, Rajendra Nagar, Kumhrar, Bairiya Bus Stand, Patna City, and Hajipur.

New Parking Area for Autos from the Western Side

For autorickshaws approaching from the western side of the city, the new railway parking area near the GPO roundabout will be the designated stand. Parking of autos near the GPO roundabout is now strictly prohibited. Drivers using the railway parking area will need to pay a daily fee of Rs 20. Additionally, Vikram (three-wheeled vehicle) drivers will be required to pay Rs 40 for parking in this new area. Vikram services have already begun operating from the railway parking area.

Objective of the New Measures

The decision to implement these changes was made to address the frequent congestion issues at the GPO and Patna Junction roundabouts. These areas are key intersections that often disrupt traffic flow, particularly towards the multimodal transport hub at Patna Junction. Traffic SP Vaibhav Sharma explained that the presence of autorickshaws at these roundabouts was creating severe bottlenecks, impeding the smooth movement of vehicles.

With the new arrangement, the authorities hope to improve traffic regulation and ensure that vehicle movement remains unhindered, especially around Patna Junction, which serves as a major transportation hub in the city.

Enforcement and Compliance

Authorities have emphasized that e-rickshaws will no longer be allowed to operate near the Junction roundabout. Autorickshaws operating from the eastern side of the city will follow the new route through Tata Park. Autos currently stationed near the GPO will be redirected to the railway parking area.

To ensure the success of the new system, traffic police have announced that enforcement will be increased in the coming days. They have warned that violations of the new rules will result in penalties and strict action.

The changes introduced by Patna’s traffic authorities are a significant step toward addressing the ongoing congestion issues around Patna Junction. By regulating autorickshaw parking and restricting e-rickshaws in key areas, the authorities aim to enhance traffic flow and improve the overall transportation experience for commuters. As the system is implemented, officials will continue to monitor its effectiveness and enforce the rules to ensure better traffic management in the city.
