In a shocking incident from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, a Junior Engineer (JE) was brutally murdered by burglars during a house break-in in the early hours of Monday. The deceased, identified as Mohammed Mumtaz, was attacked with a knife after he resisted a robbery attempt at his residence in the Maripur locality under Kazi Mohammadpur police station area.
The heinous crime has sent shockwaves across the city, raising serious concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.
According to police sources, the incident occurred between 3 AM and 4 AM when a group of burglars allegedly broke into Mohammed Mumtaz’s rented house through a window with the intention of stealing valuables.
At the time of the incident, Mumtaz was asleep with his wife and two children inside the house. As soon as he noticed suspicious activity and confronted the intruders, the robbers turned violent.
In a gruesome act, the attackers stabbed Mumtaz multiple times with sharp weapons, reportedly in front of his terrified family members. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Mohammed Mumtaz hailed from Dedhua village in Vaishali district but had been living in a rented accommodation in Maripur, Muzaffarpur, due to his job as a junior engineer.
He was known among neighbors as a calm and honest government employee who had no known personal disputes, making the incident all the more shocking and tragic.
Soon after the incident was reported, police officials from Kazi Mohammadpur Police Station rushed to the scene. The body of the deceased was recovered and sent for postmortem.
Muzaffarpur City Superintendent of Police (SP) Kirn Kumar also arrived at the crime scene to assess the situation. According to police sources, CCTV footage from nearby houses and commercial establishments is being examined for possible clues.
Initial questioning of the victim’s wife and children has revealed that the robbers entered through the window, possibly after monitoring the house for several days.

The murder of a government official in a residential area has left residents in shock and fear. Locals in Maripur have raised concerns over increased incidents of thefts, chain-snatching, and home invasions in the area over the past few months.
Speaking to KKNLive, a local resident said,
“We no longer feel safe in our own homes. Even government officers are not being spared. We request the administration to increase night patrols and install more CCTV cameras in our locality.”
Given the nature of the crime, police are likely to file charges under:
Section 302 – Murder
Section 397 – Robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt
Section 452 – House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint
Section 34 – Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention
If convicted, the accused could face life imprisonment or even the death penalty, depending on the court proceedings and evidence.
Mumtaaz’s family members, who arrived in Muzaffarpur shortly after the incident, were in a state of shock. His wife, who witnessed the attack firsthand, is reportedly traumatized and under medical observation.
Speaking to reporters, one of the relatives demanded swift justice:
“He was a kind man, a responsible father and husband. We want the police to arrest the culprits immediately and ensure they are punished severely.”
This incident is part of a growing concern in Muzaffarpur and nearby areas where serious crimes including theft, murder, and assault are being reported with alarming frequency.
In the past month alone:
A businessman was attacked at his home in Motijheel
A chain-snatching gang was busted in Mithanpura
Armed robbery occurred near Ahiyapur involving four unidentified assailants
Experts say the lack of night patrolling, poor lighting in residential colonies, and limited police presence are contributing to the rise in crime.
The murder of Junior Engineer Mohammed Mumtaz in Muzaffarpur is a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by ordinary citizens, even in urban residential areas. While the police have launched an investigation and vowed swift action, the public sentiment calls for stronger preventive measures and visible law enforcement.
KKNLive urges the district administration and Bihar Police to take immediate steps to restore public confidence and ensure such tragic incidents are not repeated.
