Lawyer Shot Dead Near Police Station in Patna: Crime Wave Continues in Bihar

Published on

crimeFear has gripped Bihar once again as violent crimes continue to escalate. Just days after the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, yet another shocking case has emerged. In the latest incident, a lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight near the Sultanganj police station in Patna.

According to the police, the victim was attacked barely 300 meters from the local police station. The brutal killing has raised serious questions about the law and order situation in Patna, especially as the incident occurred in a high-alert zone.

Fear Returns to Patna as Crime Rises

This killing is the latest in a string of violent crimes across Bihar. The state has recently witnessed a rise in daylight shootings, contract killings, and gang-related violence.

The murder of businessman Gopal Khemka had already created panic in business circles. Now, with the cold-blooded murder of a lawyer, fear is spreading among professionals and residents alike.

Locals say they feel unsafe even during the day. Many have stopped sending children alone to schools or shops.

Incident Details: Gunmen Flee After Firing Multiple Shots

The attack occurred in Patna’s Sultanganj area, in close proximity to the police station. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was walking when armed men on a motorbike approached him and opened fire.

Locals rushed to the spot upon hearing the gunshots. However, the assailants had fled the scene within seconds.

The victim was left bleeding on the road. Passersby alerted police, who reached the site promptly.

Victim Identified as Lawyer Jitendra Kumar

City SP (East) Parichay Kumar confirmed the victim’s identity as Jitendra Kumar, a practicing lawyer. He was immediately taken to PMCH Hospital in critical condition.

Despite efforts by doctors, Jitendra Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

According to police officials, the attackers fired multiple bullets, aiming at the head and chest.

Senior Officials Arrive at Crime Scene

Following the shooting, top officers from Patna Police rushed to the crime scene. Sultanganj Station House Officer, along with Sub-Divisional Police Officer Atulesh Jha, arrived to supervise the investigation.

SP (East) Parichay Kumar led the initial inquiry. He spoke to eyewitnesses and directed teams to seal nearby routes to catch the accused.

Police began collecting preliminary forensic evidence and examining nearby surroundings for clues.

Investigation Begins: CCTV Footage and FSL Probe Ordered

SP Parichay Kumar informed the media that a team has started a forensic investigation. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is analyzing the crime scene.

Police are also scanning CCTV cameras installed nearby to trace the criminals’ movement. Initial footage may have captured the vehicle’s make, direction, and number plate.

Investigators are also speaking with local residents and shop owners for any possible leads.

Possible Motives Under Investigation

The motive behind Jitendra Kumar’s murder is still unknown. However, multiple theories are being explored:

  • Was the lawyer targeted due to a legal case he was handling?

  • Was this a result of personal enmity?

  • Could this be part of a larger extortion racket?

Police are checking his recent call records and case files for possible clues.

A case of murder and criminal conspiracy has been registered. Special teams are working under senior officers to identify and arrest the culprits.

Pattern of Crime Raises Alarm in Bihar

The murder of Jitendra Kumar is not an isolated event. In the past few weeks, Bihar has seen:

  • The murder of businessman Gopal Khemka

  • Shooting incidents in Muzaffarpur and Gaya

  • Robbery cases linked to organized gangs

Analysts believe that organized crime networks may be resurging in Bihar’s cities. Lack of preventive policing and visible patrolling are being blamed for the situation.

Locals say that even areas near police stations are no longer safe.

Public Reaction: Outrage and Fear in Legal Circles

The legal community in Patna has expressed shock over the killing. Several advocates and bar association members gathered at the Patna Civil Court and demanded justice.

Lawyers have called for a statewide protest if the police fail to arrest the killers within 48 hours.

Citizens are also venting their anger on social media, questioning the safety of professionals and the effectiveness of Bihar Police.

Security Measures and Political Response

Following public pressure, the Bihar government has asked for a status report on the case. Sources say that extra police forces are being deployed in crime-prone areas of Patna.

Opposition leaders have condemned the breakdown of law and order. They are demanding the resignation of the state Home Minister and the SP (City).

Meanwhile, Chief Minister’s Office has said that strict action will be taken against those responsible.

What Happens Next?

Here’s what’s expected in the coming days:

  • Post-mortem report of the deceased will be submitted

  • CCTV footage will be analyzed by a dedicated cyber team

  • Call data records will be retrieved from telecom providers

  • Suspects identified through sketches or witness accounts

  • Forensic samples to be sent for lab examination

A special investigation team (SIT) may also be formed to track down professional shooters, if involved.

Legal Community Demands Protection

Advocates across Bihar are demanding police protection during sensitive case hearings. They are also seeking:

  • CCTV installation in court premises

  • Panic buttons in chambers

  • Quick-response security teams

Bar councils have warned that if the government fails to act, court boycotts and demonstrations will follow.

The broad daylight murder of lawyer Jitendra Kumar just meters away from a police station has exposed deep flaws in Bihar’s policing system. With increasing incidents of violent crimes, fear among professionals is growing.

This case is a litmus test for Bihar Police, who are already under criticism for recent failures. The coming days will determine whether justice is served—or whether this killing becomes another unsolved statistic in Bihar’s crime history.
