Bus Accident on Expressway : 11 Injured in Mishap Near Muzaffarpur

Published on

A private bus traveling from Delhi to Muzaffarpur met with an unfortunate accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway on October 25, 2025. The bus, which was on its way to Bihar from Anand Vihar in Delhi, overturned near the Rewari Toll Plaza, approximately two kilometers away from Kakori, a locality in Lucknow. The mishap caused panic among the passengers, with 11 people, including four residents from the Kanti Kalwari area in Muzaffarpur, sustaining injuries.

A Sudden Turn of Events

According to eyewitnesses and passengers, the bus was traveling towards Muzaffarpur when it suddenly lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle plunged off the road and flipped over, leaving several passengers in shock and distress. The accident occurred in the early morning hours, and the passengers were startled, unable to react swiftly to the sudden crash.

The accident resulted in the immediate injury of several people, some of whom suffered severe injuries while others experienced minor bruises and fractures. Following the incident, emergency services were alerted, and local authorities quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured passengers.

Details of the Injuries

Among the injured, several individuals from the Kanti Kalwari region in Muzaffarpur were identified, including Raja Kumar, his father Badri Shah, and other relatives. The names of the injured passengers included Badri Shah (55), his son Raja Kumar (25), his daughter Mamtā Kumari (30), and his grandson Arav (11). Other injured passengers included Priti (24) from Saharsa, Vicky Kumar (22) and Roshan Vicky (20) from Piprakhila in the Motihari district, as well as Arvind Kumar (34) from Sant Kabir Nagar, Rakesh (36) from Hamirpur, and others.

Some of the victims, including Badri Shah and his family, had been on a trip to Delhi for medical treatment at the AIIMS hospital and were returning to Bihar to celebrate the upcoming Chhath festival. Their travel plans took a tragic turn when the bus crashed. Despite the serious nature of the incident, many of the passengers who sustained minor injuries were treated on-site and later transferred to another vehicle to continue their journey.

Immediate Medical Assistance and Investigation

Local police, along with medical teams, rushed to the spot to provide initial care and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. The victims were given primary treatment by the Kakori police before being sent to other vehicles. The injured were then transferred to local hospitals, where they continue to receive treatment for their injuries. Some of the injured passengers, including Vikky Kumar, shared details of their journey. He mentioned that his father had visited Delhi for treatment a few weeks ago. The entire family had come to celebrate the Chhath festival, and during the journey back home, the accident occurred.

The authorities have initiated an investigation into the accident. Initial reports suggest that driver fatigue could be a contributing factor. The possibility of the driver falling asleep while driving is being considered, and the police are using CCTV footage from the expressway to trace the driver and the conductor. Efforts are underway to locate both individuals responsible for the accident and ensure that proper action is taken.

Safety Concerns on the Expressway

This incident has once again raised concerns about road safety on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, a critical route for travelers heading to and from northern and eastern India. Although the expressway is well-maintained, accidents like this highlight the need for better safety measures. Authorities are urging bus operators and drivers to exercise caution, especially during long-distance travel, and ensure regular breaks to prevent fatigue-related accidents.

Personal Accounts from the Accident Scene

One of the survivors, Vikky Kumar, shared his experience of the accident. He stated that his family had traveled to Delhi for medical reasons and had planned to return home in time for the Chhath festival. However, their journey took a drastic turn when the bus overturned on the expressway. He recalled the moments of panic and confusion that followed the accident as the passengers scrambled to understand what had happened.

The passengers from Kanti Kalwari, who had been traveling together, also shared their traumatic experiences. Badri Shah, along with his son Raja Kumar and other family members, had hoped for a peaceful journey back to their hometown. Instead, they found themselves in a life-threatening situation. Despite the tragedy, they are thankful for the timely medical care and the quick response of the police and emergency services.

The Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation

Following the crash, authorities are working on several fronts to piece together the cause of the accident. Investigators are focusing on the possibility that the driver might have fallen asleep, contributing to the bus losing control. The expressway’s CCTV cameras are being used to track the movement of the bus before the crash, and efforts are underway to locate both the driver and the conductor.

The accident has raised awareness about the importance of road safety and the critical role played by both vehicle operators and passengers in preventing such incidents. Additionally, the medical care provided to the injured passengers has been praised by the local community, as it helped minimize the potential for fatalities.

The bus accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway has left 11 people injured, including several from Muzaffarpur. The crash, which occurred while the bus was traveling from Delhi to Muzaffarpur, highlights the importance of road safety and the vigilance required from drivers, especially during long-distance travel. As investigations continue, authorities are working to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

While the incident has been traumatic for the victims, their stories of survival and the quick response from emergency services provide a sense of hope. The authorities’ focus on improving road safety measures on critical highways like the Lucknow-Agra Expressway will hopefully lead to fewer such incidents in the future, ensuring that travelers can reach their destinations safely.
