Operation Sindoor was a strategic military initiative launched in response to escalating cross-border tensions and ceasefire violations by Pakistan. The operation aimed to fortify India’s defense mechanisms along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

On May 10, 2025, during intense cross-border shelling in the RS Pura sector, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiaz sustained critical injuries. Despite valiant efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication. His mortal remains were transported to his native village, Narayanpur in Saran district, Bihar, where he was laid to rest with full military honors.

Financial Assistance and Government Support

Recognizing the profound loss and the family’s sacrifice, the government, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) and the State Bank of India (SBI), expedited the compensation process. A total of ₹1.1 crore was transferred to the family’s account, providing financial stability during this challenging time.

State Honors and Memorial Initiatives

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar personally visited Narayanpur village to pay his respects. During his visit, he announced several initiatives to honor Sub-Inspector Imtiaz’s memory:

  • Monetary Compensation: A cheque of ₹50 lakh was handed over to the family.Employment Assurance: A government job was promised to his son, based on his qualifications.Infrastructure Developments:

    • A 2-kilometer stretch of road from Chintamanganj Bridge to Rahampur Bazar will be named after the martyr.

    • A commemorative gate, “Shaheed Imtiaz Dwar,” will be constructed at the entrance of Jalal-Basant panchayat.

    • A health sub-center and a memorial will be established in the village to serve as lasting tributes.

These initiatives aim to immortalize Sub-Inspector Imtiaz’s contributions and inspire future generations.

National Recognition and Tributes

The sacrifice of Sub-Inspector Imtiaz resonated across the nation. BSF Director-General Daljit Singh Chawdhary announced that the border posts where Imtiaz and his fellow martyr, Constable Deepak Chingakham, were stationed would be named in their honor. This decision ensures that their bravery is remembered by all who serve at these posts.

Family’s Response and Public Sentiment

The martyr’s family, while grieving, expressed immense pride in his sacrifice. His son, Imran Raza, emotionally stated, “I am proud of you, papa.” The community rallied around the family, with villagers and officials alike paying their respects and offering support.
