Bihar Weather Update: Heat, Chill and Uncertain Forecast on 23 September

Published on

The weather in Bihar is once again taking unpredictable turns. On 23 September, residents across the state are experiencing a rare mix of warmth and chill. The day begins with a cold breeze that leaves people shivering. Yet, by noon, the temperature shoots up and the sun forces many to seek shade. This strange weather pattern has become the latest concern for farmers and common people alike.

Morning chill, afternoon heat

Today’s weather in Bihar has brought unusual contrasts. The morning breeze is cold enough to make people grab light shawls. However, as the day progresses, the mercury rises sharply. By afternoon, the temperature reaches nearly 37 degrees Celsius. Villages witness thin layers of mist over fields, while urban streets struggle under the burning sun. This sudden swing between cold and heat is leaving residents confused about what lies ahead.

Bihar Meteorological Centre gives fresh forecast

The Bihar Meteorological Centre has shared its latest weather forecast. According to experts, the monsoon is losing strength. The skies are now mostly clear with clouds slowly disappearing. Rainfall activities that dominated previous weeks have weakened. In fact, the weather office has warned that only isolated areas may receive light showers. For most parts of Bihar, the coming days will remain dry and humid.

Weak low-pressure area in Bay of Bengal

Weather experts are also monitoring the Bay of Bengal. A weak low-pressure system is expected to form around 24 and 25 September. Although the system is developing, it is not strong enough to bring heavy rainfall across Bihar. Only scattered drizzle or light rain can be expected in some districts. Hopes of widespread monsoon showers now appear unrealistic.

Patna weather update

In Patna, the capital city, people are struggling with this strange mix of conditions. Mornings are cool and somewhat pleasant, but afternoons bring harsh sunshine. Evenings add another twist with rising humidity that makes the air uncomfortable. Commuters on city roads are facing exhaustion during the day, while nights are comparatively easier to handle. For many, this ongoing weather swing has become an everyday challenge.

Farmers caught in confusion

The changing weather has left farmers across Bihar uncertain about their next step. Fields in rural areas are now covered with light fog in the morning. But the absence of strong rain is creating problems for paddy cultivation. Farmers who were hoping for a good monsoon are now worried. With water levels falling and no clear sign of heavy showers, agricultural planning has become more difficult. Many farmers are now looking to October rains, but forecasts show little hope.

Morning mist signals seasonal transition

The appearance of morning mist in many villages signals that the state is entering a transitional phase. The shift from monsoon to winter is beginning earlier than expected. While fog is still thin, it is expected to get denser in the coming weeks. This seasonal change is normal for late September, but the sudden rise in daytime heat has made it unusual this year.

Residents face double trouble

People across the state are calling this phase a battle between sweat and shivers. Early mornings force residents to wear light woollens, but afternoons are unbearable without fans or coolers. In some homes, air conditioners are still running during the day, while in the morning people prefer sitting in the sun. This double challenge is unusual and not easy to manage.

Upcoming days: heat to dominate

The weather office has indicated that the heat will continue until midweek. Temperatures are expected to remain high, making afternoons uncomfortable. Light rain may appear after 25 September, but it will not provide much relief. Instead, experts believe that rainfall will act as a mere formality. The monsoon season is coming to its natural end, and the state must now prepare for the onset of winter.

Warning of severe winter ahead

The India Meteorological Department has also issued a seasonal outlook. According to scientists, the upcoming winter in Bihar could be much harsher than usual. The La Niña effect is expected to influence northern India, including Bihar. This could bring record-breaking cold waves after October. The chill may not remain limited to mild winter but could cause severe discomfort. Residents are advised to prepare for an intense winter season.

La Niña effect on Bihar weather

La Niña is a climate pattern that usually strengthens cold waves across the subcontinent. When this effect combines with local factors, temperatures can drop drastically. Bihar, already known for its harsh winter spells, may see colder nights than in previous years. The last time La Niña had a strong impact, residents faced extreme cold that disrupted normal life. Experts now believe a similar situation may return.

Health concerns due to changing weather

Doctors have also raised concerns about the sudden shifts in weather. The mix of heat, cold, and humidity can increase the risk of viral infections. Common flu, cough, and fever are spreading fast in many areas. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable. Medical experts advise people to stay hydrated during the day and cover themselves properly in the morning and evening chill. Sudden exposure to cold breeze and harsh sunlight may weaken immunity.

Festivals under weather pressure

The Navratri season has begun, and celebrations are underway across Bihar. But the unusual weather is affecting daily events and gatherings. In the morning, devotees visiting temples feel a mild chill. By noon, however, the heat becomes uncomfortable, forcing people to seek shade during rituals. Evening programs are again affected by sticky humidity. Organizers are making special arrangements to ensure comfort for participants.

Impact on rural economy

Beyond agriculture, the unusual weather is also impacting rural markets. Vegetable vendors are finding it hard to preserve perishable items under extreme daytime heat. Milk production is also seeing small disruptions as cattle suffer from humidity. For small shopkeepers and hawkers, working in the scorching sun during afternoon hours has become difficult. Rural economy, already under pressure from uncertain rainfall, is now struggling with the added stress of this weather.

Bihar weather in transition

The ongoing weather clearly signals that Bihar is moving into a transition phase. Monsoon is withdrawing, but winter has not fully arrived. This creates an unusual balance where residents face both ends of the spectrum. Such conditions are not entirely new, but this year’s intensity has surprised many. For now, the state must wait for October to see whether the forecasts of a harsh winter come true.

What lies ahead for Bihar

The next few weeks will be crucial for Bihar weather. If the Bay of Bengal system gains strength, some parts of the state may receive rainfall. But even if showers arrive, they are unlikely to match the intensity of earlier monsoon spells. Meanwhile, the expected La Niña effect may soon trigger cold winds from the north. This means that residents must get ready for sharp drops in temperature after October.

Until then, the people of Bihar continue to cope with the daily struggle. From shivering mornings to sweating afternoons, the weather remains unpredictable. The clash of two seasons has forced families to keep fans and blankets side by side. For students, workers, farmers, and shopkeepers, each day brings a new challenge. While the heat dominates the noon hours, the approaching winter quietly makes its presence felt every morning.
