Bihar Weather Update : Forecast for 15th November 2025

Published on

The weather in Bihar has taken a sudden turn, creating a cold wave across several districts, including Patna, Gaya, and Rohtas. As November progresses, the state is experiencing an unusual dip in temperatures, with the nighttime temperature dropping as low as 11°C, which is typically seen only in December or January. Meteorologists have issued a warning for a prolonged cold spell over the next few days.

Sudden Temperature Drop in Bihar

On 15th November 2025, the state of Bihar witnessed an unexpected shift in its weather. Several districts, including Patna, Gaya, and Rohtas, have been experiencing a rapid decline in temperatures. The minimum temperature in Patna recorded was 15.7°C, with the maximum reaching 27.7°C. The dry air and the strong north-western winds have intensified the cold weather, making the atmosphere more biting than usual. In other districts, such as Gaya, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Buxar, Nalanda, and Nawada, the nighttime temperature has plummeted to around 11°C, with some places expected to see temperatures as low as 8-9°C.

Why is Bihar Experiencing Severe Cold in November?

The sharp dip in temperatures in Bihar can be attributed to the impact of snowfall in the northern hill states of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The icy winds from these regions are making their way down to the plains of Bihar, causing a significant drop in the temperature. Meteorologists predict that this wind pattern will persist for the next few days, leading to a further intensification of the cold weather throughout the state.

Cold Weather Warnings in 15 Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for an increase in cold weather intensity in 15 districts over the next 72 hours. These districts include Patna, Gaya, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Buxar, Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Saran. The nighttime temperature in these areas is expected to dip by another 1-2°C. Additionally, the northwest winds will continue at a speed of up to 30 km/h, which will further exacerbate the cold conditions.

No Rain, But Foggy Weather Expected

The weather in Bihar is expected to remain dry for the entire week. There are no predictions of rainfall, but dense fog is expected to develop, particularly in the early mornings. In the Ganga plain regions and northern Bihar, visibility may drop as low as 50 meters due to the fog. This can severely affect road and rail traffic, leading to delays and visibility hazards. Furthermore, the air quality in Bihar is expected to deteriorate, as pollution and dust particles settle close to the ground during the cold weather.

Differing Temperatures in South and North Bihar

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the temperatures in South Bihar are likely to range between 26°C and 28°C during the day, while the northern and north-western parts of the state could see daytime temperatures rising to 28°C to 30°C. At night, the temperature in the southern and southwestern districts will drop to between 11°C and 14°C. In contrast, the northern parts of Bihar will experience relatively less cold, with temperatures hovering between 14°C and 16°C during the night.

Impact of Cold Wave on Daily Life

The sudden drop in temperatures has already begun affecting daily life in Bihar. People are feeling the chill more intensely as the daytime warmth gradually gives way to cold evenings and nights. The winter-like conditions are likely to affect the lifestyle of residents, particularly in rural areas, where the need for adequate warm clothing and heating is more pronounced.

As Bihar experiences an early onset of winter, residents can expect more of the same in the coming days. The temperature will continue to fall, and the dry weather will persist, making it important for people to prepare for the cold spell. Meteorologists have cautioned that the winter-like conditions could last for a week, and travelers are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts due to the increasing fog in the mornings.

With no significant rainfall expected in the near future, Bihar will continue to battle the effects of an extended cold spell, which could lead to potential disruptions in travel and outdoor activities. The state’s residents will need to stay prepared for the changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe.

In summary, the sudden onset of a cold wave in Bihar, triggered by icy winds from the northern hills, has caused temperatures to drop significantly earlier than usual. While there is no forecast of rain, fog and a further drop in temperature will impact daily life across the state. With cold conditions expected to persist for several days, it is important for everyone to remain cautious and stay updated on weather advisories.
