Despite the arrival of the monsoon in Bihar, rainfall remains significantly weak across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no district has recorded heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with only scattered light to moderate showers reported from a few areas.

Monsoon Weakens in Bihar: Limited Rainfall Across the State

As per the weather bulletin released on Sunday afternoon, the highest recorded rainfall in the last 24 hours was in Nawada (38.2 mm) and Rohtas (37.8 mm). Other districts such as Buxar (34.02 mm), Kaimur (30.6 mm), and Katihar (24 mm) received moderate rainfall. However, most of Bihar continues to face hot and humid weather, leaving residents uncomfortable amid cloudy skies and limited rain.

Today’s Weather Forecast: 26 Districts Likely to Receive Rain

The Meteorological Centre in Patna has predicted scattered rain and thunderstorms for 26 districts of Bihar today (Monday). Light to moderate rainfall is expected in both South Bihar and parts of North-East Bihar, including:

  • Madhubani, Saharsa, Purnia, Katihar, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur, Jamui, Banka, Lakhisarai, Begusarai

  • Nawada, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Gaya, Patna, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Arwal, Rohtas, Kaimur, Buxar, and Bhojpur

Some areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and wind speeds ranging between 30 to 40 km/h, increasing the risk of temporary power outages or tree falls in isolated locations.

Rainfall Data Across Districts (Last 24 Hours)

Here’s a quick look at rainfall measured in key districts:

District Rainfall (mm)
Nawada 38.2
Rohtas 37.8
Buxar 34.02
Kaimur 30.6
Katihar 24.0
Madhepura 18.6
Arwal 12.8
Gaya 11.8
Bhagalpur 11.2
Bhojpur 8.6
Vaishali 8.6
Araria 8.4
Purnia 8.4

Despite this scattered rainfall, most areas in Bihar remain dry, leading to rising concerns among farmers who were anticipating steady monsoon showers by early July.

Temperatures Continue to Soar Across Bihar

Even with occasional showers, heat and humidity remain persistent. The temperature is expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three days. On Sunday, Gopalganj recorded the highest temperature at 38.5°C, while Patna, the state capital, witnessed 35.1°C.

Most districts are reporting temperatures between 33°C and 36°C, and the situation is unlikely to change significantly in the immediate future. Though rain is forecasted in several regions, strong sunshine and high humidity will continue to trouble residents, especially in urban centres like Patna.

Monsoon Delay Affecting Agriculture and Public Life

The weak progress of the monsoon is causing concern among farmers, particularly those dependent on timely rains for paddy sowing and other kharif crops. Agriculture officials suggest that if widespread rain doesn’t occur in the coming week, it may impact sowing schedules, especially in southern and central Bihar.

Urban populations, too, are struggling with uncomfortable weather conditions. High humidity combined with strong sunlight has led to an increase in heat-related illnesses, particularly among the elderly and children.

Weather Outlook for the Week Ahead

According to IMD, there is no major rainfall activity expected in the coming three days. Scattered rain may continue in selected areas, but the overall monsoon activity remains subdued.

Meteorologists explain that monsoon currents have weakened over the Bay of Bengal and eastern India, reducing the intensity and spread of rain-bearing clouds over Bihar. A clearer picture is expected by mid-July when monsoon circulation is likely to revive, bringing more consistent rain across the state.
