Bihar Weather Forecast: Heat, Humidity and Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms

Published on

The weather in Bihar is once again taking a sharp turn as the Meteorological Department has issued a fresh advisory. For the next two days, most districts of the state will continue to reel under hot and humid conditions. However, from September 9 onwards, a new spell of monsoon rains is expected to bring heavy downpours across different regions. The department has specifically warned residents of 11 districts about the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning on Saturday, September 6.

Yellow Alert Issued in 11 Districts

According to the Meteorological Department, the impact of unstable weather patterns will be visible in several regions. Aurangabad, Ara, Bhagalpur, Jamui and seven other districts are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning. The warning highlights a moderate risk of strong winds, thunder and lightning strikes in scattered areas. This development has created concern among farmers and rural households as sudden changes in weather can damage standing crops and disrupt daily activities.

Weather experts believe that the active circulation of monsoon winds in the Bay of Bengal will be the key factor behind the upcoming shift. The interaction between moist winds and local heat will create a suitable environment for thundercloud formation, which may lead to intense spells of rain and thunder in parts of Bihar.

Relief Expected After Two Days of Heat

At present, most of the state is experiencing humid and sweaty conditions. The Meteorological Department has indicated that this phase will continue until September 8. With daytime temperatures rising and no significant rainfall, residents are struggling with sticky weather and discomfort. People in urban centers such as Patna, Gaya and Muzaffarpur are reporting higher electricity consumption due to fans and air conditioning, while rural households are relying heavily on groundwater for relief.

From September 9, conditions will gradually change as monsoon winds gain strength. A widespread spell of rainfall is likely to cover northern and western districts initially and then spread towards central and southern Bihar. The heavy showers are expected to reduce temperatures and bring much-needed relief from humidity.

Possible Heavy Rain in Several Districts

The forecast for September 9 is particularly important. The Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms with lightning across the entire state. Special warnings have been issued for Kaimur, Gopalganj and West Champaran districts. These areas are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.

Moving ahead, the southern districts of Bihar may also come under the influence of heavy rain from September 10. Experts say that the system forming over the Bay of Bengal will continue to move inland, thereby strengthening the intensity of the monsoon in Bihar.

Weather Outlook for Bhagalpur

In Bhagalpur, weather scientists have given a detailed local forecast. Dr. Birendra Kumar from Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, has stated that on Saturday and Sunday, the sky will remain partly cloudy. The heat and humidity will be intense, making conditions uncomfortable for residents.

From Monday to Wednesday, light rainfall or drizzle is expected, along with partial cloud cover. However, no significant drop in temperature is anticipated during this period. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures will likely remain stable, keeping the overall climate warm.

Monsoon Activity to Intensify After September 8

Meteorological data suggests that monsoon activity in Bihar will intensify after September 8. The state has been witnessing weak monsoon conditions over the past few days, leading to higher temperatures and reduced rainfall. This has affected agriculture in several regions where paddy cultivation depends heavily on timely rainfall.

From September 9 onward, strong moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal is expected to reactivate the monsoon. The result will be heavy rainfall in multiple districts, reducing water stress in agricultural lands and replenishing reservoirs. However, excessive rainfall in a short span of time could also lead to waterlogging and flash floods in low-lying areas.

Eastern Bihar to See Humid Conditions

For the residents of eastern Bihar, particularly Bhagalpur and nearby regions, the next two days will remain challenging. The Indian Meteorological Department has confirmed that hot and humid conditions will persist until September 8. After this, light rainfall is likely to bring temporary relief. However, humidity will not fully disappear as cloud cover and intermittent showers will continue.

People are being advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses during this period. Farmers are also being urged to stay alert to lightning strikes, which are common during such unstable weather phases.

Statewide Advisory and Public Safety Measures

The Meteorological Department has recommended that people in the yellow alert districts remain cautious. Thunderstorms and lightning pose a serious threat to life, especially in rural areas where open fields and farmlands expose individuals to risk. Authorities have advised farmers to avoid working in open fields during thundercloud activity and to take shelter immediately when the sky darkens.

In urban areas, municipal bodies have been asked to ensure proper drainage systems are ready in case of sudden heavy downpours. Power supply companies are also monitoring the situation closely as thunderstorms often cause disruptions in electricity distribution.

Impact on Agriculture and Daily Life

The upcoming spell of rain will have mixed effects on Bihar’s agriculture. While the showers will benefit paddy cultivation and help in replenishing water resources, excessive rainfall may damage crops in waterlogged fields. Farmers are hoping for moderate rainfall that will aid growth without causing flooding.

Daily life in cities may also face disruption as heavy rainfall can lead to traffic jams, waterlogging and longer commuting times. Authorities in Patna, Bhagalpur and Gaya have started making preparations to handle these situations.

The weather in Bihar is entering a crucial phase as the monsoon regains strength. For the next two days, residents will face hot and humid weather, but from September 9, widespread rainfall is expected across the state. With yellow alerts already in place for several districts, people are advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines. While the showers will bring much-needed relief from the oppressive humidity, they also carry risks of lightning strikes, flash floods and damage to crops.

This change in weather is significant for both urban residents and farmers. The coming week will decide how well Bihar manages the dual challenges of heat and rainfall. As always, the Meteorological Department will continue to issue updates, and citizens are urged to stay informed and prepared.
