KKN Gurugram Desk | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange weather alerts for various parts of Bihar today, warning of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, strong winds, and moderate rainfall. According to the latest forecast, both North and South Bihar are likely to experience weather disturbances, with varying intensities.
A Yellow Alert is a cautionary warning for possible thunderstorm activity with lightning and wind speeds ranging between 30 to 40 km/h.
An Orange Alert is a more serious notice, forecasting severe weather including thunderstorms, lightning, and wind gusts up to 60 km/h.
The following districts are under Orange Alert, with potential risks of thunderstorms and strong winds:
East Champaran
West Champaran
Gopalganj
Siwan
Saran
Muzaffarpur
Sheohar
Sitamarhi
Madhubani
Darbhanga
Samastipur
Vaishali
These regions may experience wind speeds between 50–60 km/h along with scattered lightning and rainfall. Residents are advised to stay indoors during storm hours and avoid sheltering under trees.
All remaining districts of Bihar are under Yellow Alert, where weather is expected to remain unstable with wind speeds of 30–40 km/h, lightning, and patchy rainfall in isolated areas.
On Friday, large parts of Bihar recorded hot and humid conditions, leading to higher maximum temperatures. Due to nighttime cloud cover, there was also a notable increase in minimum temperatures.

Rainfall in 22 districts – Light to moderate showers
Asarganj (Munger): Highest rainfall at 112.8 mm
Wind Gusts: Up to 30 km/h in Nalanda and Sheikhpura
Coolest towns: Sheikhpura and Pusa (Samastipur) at 22.1°C
Hottest town: Dehri (Rohtas) with a high of 40°C
According to IMD Patna, moist easterly and southeast winds are gaining strength, creating favorable conditions for light to moderate rainfall across Bihar until 31 May 2025. There are even chances of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
Farmers are advised to:
Store harvested crops in safe and dry locations
Avoid sowing or field activities during alert hours
Use proper coverings for open grain storage areas
Patna is expected to have cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms and rainfall in some areas. On Friday, the city saw fluctuating cloud cover and rising temperatures.
