Bihar Mahila Rojgar Yojana: Women to Receive Rs 10,000 Assistance, Application Process Explained

The Bihar Mahila Rojgar Yojana is one of the most ambitious welfare programs announced before the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has approved this scheme to empower women economically and provide direct financial assistance.

Under this initiative, one eligible woman from every household in Bihar will receive Rs 10,000 as the first installment. Later, depending on their business progress, additional assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh will be provided.

The government has allocated Rs 20,000 crore to implement the scheme, which is expected to cover millions of families across rural and urban Bihar.

Online and Offline Applications

Applications for the scheme will soon be open both online and offline. This dual process aims to ensure that women from both urban and rural areas can apply without difficulty.

Online Process for Urban Women

Urban women will have to apply through a dedicated government portal. The portal is being developed to facilitate smooth registration.

Applicants will need to register using their Aadhaar number. Once the portal goes live, registration and application forms will be made available.

The government will soon issue detailed guidelines to explain each step of the process, including eligibility verification and payment timelines.

Offline Process for Rural Women

For women in rural Bihar, the application process will be offline through the Jeevika self-help groups.

  • Special village-level meetings will be organized by local women’s groups.

  • Applications from eligible women will be collected at these meetings.

  • The forms will then be submitted to the block office.

  • Jeevika’s project units will upload these applications to the official MIS portal.

  • Once verified, funds will be transferred directly to the women’s bank accounts.

This process ensures that women in rural areas, who may lack digital access, are not excluded.

Eligibility Criteria for Bihar Mahila Rojgar Yojana

The Bihar government has set clear eligibility rules to ensure genuine beneficiaries receive the financial aid.

  • Married women are eligible.

  • Unmarried adult women, if their parents are no longer alive, can also apply.

  • Women must be connected to Jeevika self-help groups.

  • Age limit: between 18 and 60 years.

  • Neither the woman nor her husband should be an income tax payer.

The scheme aims to target economically weaker households, ensuring that women from all castes and communities can benefit.

First Installment: Rs 10,000 for Every Eligible Woman

The first installment under the scheme will be Rs 10,000. This amount is designed to help women start small businesses or expand existing ones.

Women can use the funds to start shops such as grocery, fruits, vegetables, utensils, beauty products, or toys. They can also invest in setting up beauty parlors, tailoring units, mobile repair shops, photocopy centers, or stationary stores.

Additionally, women engaged in agriculture, cattle rearing, poultry farming, or allied activities can use the money to expand their work.

Additional Assistance of Rs 2 Lakh

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has assured that the scheme will not stop at Rs 10,000.

Women who demonstrate progress in their businesses will be given up to Rs 2 lakh as additional financial support.

This will encourage women to sustain their businesses, generate employment, and contribute to the local economy.

Government’s Budget and Approval

In the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the Bihar government approved Rs 20,000 crore for the scheme.

This substantial budget highlights the importance given to women’s empowerment in the state.

The program will be implemented by the Rural Development Department, with Jeevika playing a central role in the rural areas.

  1. Eligible women must collect required documents, including Aadhaar and bank details.

  2. Urban women will register online through the government portal.

  3. Rural women will submit applications through Jeevika at village-level meetings.

  4. Applications will be verified at the block and district levels.

  5. Once verified, funds will be transferred to bank accounts.
