The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the state of Bihar, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming 48 hours. The forecast indicates that most districts across the state will experience intense winds and the possibility of lightning strikes, especially in South Bihar. Additionally, the IMD has specifically warned of heavy rainfall in three districts of South Bihar, urging the public to stay alert. The weather conditions are expected to impact daily life and cause disruptions, especially in flood-prone areas.

According to weather experts, the prevailing weather patterns are associated with a low-pressure area that is currently forming over the region. As a result, the conditions are ripe for a combination of thunderstorms and heavy showers, which will affect a majority of the state.

Severe Weather Alert for South Bihar: Expect Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds

Over the past 24 hours, 14 districts in Bihar have already witnessed rainfall, and more is expected in the next two days. The heavy downpours, accompanied by strong winds, are forecasted to cause localized flooding in low-lying areas, disrupting normal activities and traffic movement.

The IMD has particularly issued a red alert for three districts in South Bihar: Gaya, Aurangabad, and Nalanda. These regions are expected to receive substantial rainfall, with the potential for waterlogging in urban areas and rural locations alike. The local authorities are on high alert, urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe.

The IMD has recommended that people avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Special care should be taken near tall structures, trees, and open fields where lightning strikes are more common. Moreover, residents of flood-prone areas have been advised to stay informed through official weather updates and be prepared for possible evacuation if necessary.

Impact on Agriculture and Daily Life in Bihar

The monsoon season in Bihar often brings a mix of challenges and relief, particularly for the agricultural sector. While farmers rely on the rains to irrigate their fields, the heavy downpours and lightning strikes can also lead to crop damage, soil erosion, and floods in certain regions. As such, farmers are advised to monitor the weather closely and take preventive measures to protect their crops, especially in areas where heavy rainfall is expected.

In addition to agricultural impacts, the weather conditions are expected to disrupt daily life in Bihar, particularly in cities like Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur. The combination of rain and strong winds can cause power outages, traffic jams, and waterlogging in the streets. Pedestrians and commuters are advised to carry umbrellas and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.

Rainfall Data and Forecast for Bihar

In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded in 14 districts, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Siwan, and Saran. These regions saw intermittent showers, with rainfall amounts varying between 20 to 60 mm. According to the IMD, this pattern is expected to intensify over the next two days, with some areas receiving as much as 100 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period.

Meteorologists predict that the rain will be accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. These gusty winds, coupled with the heavy rainfall, could cause significant disruptions to transportation systems and power supply across the state.

As the weather conditions unfold, local authorities will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary. For now, the forecast remains uncertain for the northern and eastern parts of the state, though the southern districts are expected to bear the brunt of the weather event.

Safety Tips and Preparedness for Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain

The IMD has issued several important safety guidelines for the residents of Bihar during this period of severe weather:

  • Avoid outdoor activities: It is advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid traveling unless essential.

  • Stay away from trees and tall structures: Lightning can strike tall objects, making it dangerous for anyone caught outside during storms.

  • Secure loose items: The strong winds can uproot trees and cause damage to property, so it’s important to secure any outdoor items.

  • Monitor weather updates: Keep an eye on weather alerts from the IMD and local authorities to stay informed about changing conditions.

  • Flood precautions: Residents in flood-prone areas should have an evacuation plan ready and ensure their homes are fortified against water intrusion.

What’s Behind the Weather Phenomenon in Bihar?

The weather system affecting Bihar is the result of a low-pressure area that has developed over the Bay of Bengal. This system is moving toward the north, bringing with it moisture-laden winds that fuel thunderstorms and heavy rain. As the monsoon progresses, such low-pressure systems become more frequent, leading to seasonal weather changes across the country.

Meteorologists predict that the weather in Bihar will gradually improve after the next 48 hours, but there is still uncertainty about the long-term forecast for the coming weeks. As Bihar enters the peak monsoon season, it is crucial for residents to remain prepared for more unpredictable weather patterns and respond accordingly.

Bihar’s weather over the next two days promises to be both challenging and intense, with thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall expected to impact daily life. While the rains are essential for the agricultural sector, they can also cause significant disruptions, especially in flood-prone areas. The IMD’s warnings for South Bihar and the state’s overall forecast indicate that residents should take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of severe weather.

As always, staying informed through official weather updates and local authorities is the best way to navigate the challenges of this unpredictable monsoon season. Stay safe and plan ahead for potential disruptions caused by the intense weather in Bihar.
