Bihar Bandh 2025: NDA Calls Shutdown on September 4 Over Insult to PM Modi’s Mother

Published on

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar has announced a Bihar Bandh 2025 on September 4. The bandh has been called in protest against derogatory remarks allegedly made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother during Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Rights Yatra in Darbhanga.

The protest will be led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with its NDA allies. Senior leaders confirmed that the shutdown will run from 7 am to 12 pm, with essential and emergency services excluded from the strike.

Women’s wings of NDA parties are expected to play a leading role during the bandh.

BJP Demands Apology from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav

The controversy erupted when offensive language targeting PM Modi’s mother was reportedly used from the stage of Rahul Gandhi’s program.

The BJP has strongly condemned the remarks and is demanding public apologies from Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav.

According to BJP leaders, the comments not only insulted the Prime Minister but also hurt the sentiments of the people of Bihar and the nation.

NDA Leaders Unite Against Insult

BJP state president Dr. Dilip Jaiswal stated that the Congress and RJD were responsible for allowing such offensive remarks. He said Bihar felt humiliated by the insult.

Janata Dal United (JDU) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha appealed to the public to participate actively in the bandh. He emphasized that the protest is not political but a moral response to the insult.

He urged citizens to show solidarity and support the shutdown to send a strong message of unity.

Women’s Wing to Lead the Protest

In a significant move, the NDA’s women’s wing will lead demonstrations across Bihar. Women leaders and workers will take to the streets during the bandh, expressing outrage over the insult to PM Modi’s mother.

According to NDA strategists, women’s participation will strengthen the symbolic value of the bandh. They argue that disrespect to a mother figure is an attack on every mother, sister, and daughter in the country.

Prime Minister Modi Reacts to the Incident

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself spoke emotionally about the incident.

During the inauguration of the Jeevika Bank in Bihar, he expressed deep pain, saying Congress and RJD leaders allowed abuses against his mother from their platform.

PM Modi added that this was not just an insult to his mother but to all mothers, sisters, and daughters of India. He further stated in Bhojpuri that in Bihar, “Mothers are placed even above deities and ancestors.”

His remarks added emotional weight to the controversy and fueled NDA’s decision to call for a bandh.

Bandh Timings and Scope

The NDA leaders clarified that the bandh will remain in effect from morning 7 am to noon.

Essential services such as hospitals, medical stores, and emergency transport will not be affected. Train services will also continue without disruption.

However, major markets, schools, and offices are expected to remain closed during the bandh hours. Political workers plan to block roads and hold protests at key junctions across districts.

Police and Administration on Alert

Bihar Police and local administrations have been instructed to remain alert during the bandh. Authorities are preparing to ensure that the protests remain peaceful and do not lead to violence.

Officials have appealed to political parties to maintain discipline during the shutdown. Security forces will be deployed in sensitive areas, especially in Patna, Darbhanga, and other major towns.

Opposition Faces Growing Pressure

The bandh announcement has placed the opposition in a difficult position. While Congress and RJD leaders have remained largely silent, BJP has intensified pressure for a direct apology from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.

Political analysts note that the NDA is likely to keep this issue alive during the Bihar elections 2025 campaign, projecting it as an attack not only on PM Modi but also on cultural values of Bihar.

NDA Turns Insult Into Election Issue

The NDA has signaled its intent to turn the controversy into a major electoral talking point. Party leaders say that this insult is not political rhetoric but a cultural attack on the dignity of mothers.

According to strategists, the NDA will project the bandh as an example of defending honor and self-respect. They believe this emotional appeal will resonate strongly with rural voters, especially women.

Public Reactions Across Bihar

In Darbhanga, where the controversy began, residents expressed anger over the alleged remarks. Many locals said such insults cross limits of political rivalry and show disrespect to cultural values.

Some citizens voiced support for the bandh, saying it is a justified response. Others expressed concern that bandhs often disrupt daily life but agreed that this protest carries symbolic importance.

Symbolic Timing of the Protest

The NDA’s decision to hold the bandh on September 4 is seen as strategic. With elections approaching, the party wants to demonstrate unity and mobilization capacity.

The morning-to-noon timing was chosen to minimize disruption of essential activities while still making a visible political statement.

Modi’s Emotional Appeal Strengthens Movement

By linking the insult to all mothers, PM Modi has given the protest a broader emotional narrative. His statement that Bihar holds mothers above gods and ancestors struck a deep chord.

This message is expected to amplify NDA’s campaign, making the controversy a key plank in their election strategy.

The Bihar Bandh 2025 announced by NDA on September 4 is more than a protest. It is a calculated political move to transform outrage into electoral momentum.

By focusing on the insult directed at PM Modi’s mother, the NDA is appealing to cultural values, emotional connections, and family honor.

The bandh will be closely watched to assess public response and its impact on the upcoming Bihar elections. For now, the NDA has made clear that it will not let the issue fade away, ensuring that it remains central in the political discourse of Bihar.
