Tragic Accident on Yamuna Expressway Due to Fog : 4 Dead, Over 50 Injured

Published on

A tragic accident occurred early on Tuesday morning on the Yamuna Expressway near Milepost 127, causing a deadly collision involving five buses and several cars. Due to the dense fog in the region, visibility was significantly reduced, leading to the collision. This horrifying accident resulted in the death of four people, while more than 50 others sustained injuries. The collision also caused a fire to break out in the vehicles involved.

Accident Details and Immediate Response

The accident took place around 4:30 AM when a group of private buses, traveling from Kanpur to Delhi, collided with each other and several cars. The dense fog in the area severely reduced visibility, which led to the unfortunate incident. Following the crash, the vehicles caught fire, further complicating rescue efforts.

Upon receiving the distress call, local authorities, including police and fire department teams, rushed to the scene. Emergency response teams immediately started evacuating the injured and transporting them to nearby hospitals. Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames engulfing the vehicles. Ambulances were also dispatched to the site to ensure the injured were given timely medical attention.

Loss of Lives and Severity of Injuries

The accident resulted in the death of four people. Additionally, over 50 individuals were injured, many of whom suffered critical injuries. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and confirm the total number of casualties.

In response to the devastating accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced compensation for the victims’ families. Each family of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh as compensation. Moreover, those injured in the accident will be provided ₹50,000 in financial support.

Official Statements and Action Taken

Mathura’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar confirmed that the accident occurred at around 4:30 AM when poor visibility due to dense fog led to the collision between seven buses and three cars. Firefighters and police teams were promptly dispatched to the site for rescue operations.

“The impact caused several vehicles to catch fire, and our teams worked quickly to contain the situation. We have confirmed the deaths of four individuals, while more than 25 others are injured,” said SSP Shlok Kumar in a statement.

Compensation and Road Safety Measures

The road transport department has also announced its own compensation for the victims. Those who were involved in the accident while traveling on roadways buses will receive ₹5 lakh each. The announcement aims to provide some relief to the families who have suffered from the tragic incident.

In the aftermath of the crash, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed local officials to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and take necessary steps to prevent such accidents in the future. In addition to compensation, the government is likely to implement measures to improve road safety, especially during periods of low visibility caused by fog and weather conditions.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Concern

As the investigation continues, authorities are gathering information to determine the exact cause of the collision. The dense fog that blanketed the area that morning is believed to have contributed to the reduced visibility, but further analysis is needed to understand whether there were any other factors at play.

Public safety on the Yamuna Expressway, especially during foggy conditions, has become a major concern. The tragedy has raised questions about the adequacy of safety measures on the expressway, particularly in such weather conditions.

This tragic accident on the Yamuna Expressway has left families devastated, and the scale of the crash highlights the critical need for better safety measures on high-traffic roads, especially during foggy weather. With the announcement of compensation from both the state government and the roadways, there is hope that the families affected will receive the support they need.

However, it is also clear that more must be done to ensure road safety in Uttar Pradesh and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The state government’s immediate response and efforts to provide relief to the victims’ families are commendable, but long-term measures need to be considered to protect the public from similar tragedies.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by weather conditions and the need for greater vigilance and preventive measures on highways and expressways. As investigations continue, it is expected that more will be done to enhance safety protocols to avoid future accidents.
