Heavy Rain Alert in Bihar: IMD Issues Warning for 19 Districts

Published on

Bihar, a state traditionally impacted by the monsoon season, continues to experience active monsoon conditions even as many parts of the country have seen the end of their rainy season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 19 districts across Bihar, predicting heavy rainfall in these regions. The rain is being caused by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to keep the weather patterns unstable in Bihar for the coming days.

IMD’s Weather Warning for Bihar

According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is significantly influencing the weather patterns in Bihar. As a result, several districts are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for these areas, signaling the potential for heavy rainfall. This alert covers 19 districts, while the remaining areas of the state may witness normal weather conditions. The forecast suggests that the rainy weather will continue intermittently throughout the Navratri period.

Rivers Erosion Worsens in Bihar

In addition to the heavy rainfall alert, river erosion remains a significant concern in Bihar. The erosion of rivers like the Gandak and the Ganga is causing widespread damage in several districts. In Betia’s Sisva village, the erosion of the Gandak River has worsened. Several houses have been submerged by the rising river, and the entire village is now at risk. The villagers are now desperately looking for safer locations as the erosion threatens to consume more homes.

Meanwhile, in the Vaishali district, the erosion of the Ganga River continues. In the Desari and Sahadei areas, parts of the riverbank have collapsed, and one house has already been washed away by the river’s swift current. These incidents highlight the urgent need for preventive measures to mitigate the effects of river erosion in Bihar.

Rainfall in the Last 24 Hours

In the last 24 hours, districts such as Nalanda, Betia, and Lakhisarai have recorded significant rainfall. In contrast, the capital city of Patna experienced a day of bright sunshine and high humidity. The weather in Patna on Wednesday was quite uncomfortable for the residents, who were coping with the heat and moisture. However, after the heavy rain on Tuesday, the temperature in Patna dropped slightly, with the city recording a temperature of 32.3°C on Wednesday.

Potential Impact of the Low-Pressure System on Bihar

Meteorologists have forecast that the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, located near the coasts of Myanmar and Bangladesh, could intensify by September 25. If this system strengthens, it is likely to bring more rainfall to Bihar, with the possibility of significant downpours across several districts. The department predicts that this weather pattern could persist until October 2, gradually transitioning to more stable weather conditions after that.

Patna’s Weather Forecast

In Patna, the weather is expected to remain generally normal. Light clouds will cover the skies, but the chances of rainfall remain low. However, it is anticipated that light to moderate showers will occur after September 25 in Patna and surrounding districts. The maximum temperature in Patna is forecasted to remain between 32°C and 34°C, while the minimum temperature will range from 24°C to 25°C.

Weather Outlook for Bihar and Surrounding Areas

Looking forward, the weather in Bihar is likely to remain unpredictable, with intermittent heavy rainfall expected across the state. The IMD’s predictions suggest that the weather will gradually improve after the 2nd of October, with a return to more typical conditions for this time of year. Residents should remain cautious, particularly in flood-prone areas, as the combination of heavy rain and river erosion poses a serious risk.

As Bihar continues to experience rainfall from the active monsoon, it is important to stay informed about weather updates, especially for those living in vulnerable areas. The low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to influence Bihar’s weather for the next few days, bringing heavy rain to many districts. River erosion, especially along the Gandak and Ganga rivers, is a growing concern, with the potential for more damage in the coming days. Residents in affected districts are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to safeguard their lives and properties.
