Bihar Government Launches Women Employment Scheme, ₹10,000 to Be Credited from September 15

Published on

The Bihar government is preparing to roll out the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana ahead of the state elections. The scheme aims to provide financial support and employment opportunities to women across rural and urban regions. Officials confirmed that registration will begin within the next two to three days, followed by the first installment of direct benefit transfer to beneficiaries’ bank accounts starting September 15.

Launch Timeline of Mahila Rojgar Yojana

The Rural Development Department has set a tentative date of September 7 for the formal launch. On this day, awareness vehicles will be flagged off in different districts to spread information about the scheme. The application process for eligible women will also begin simultaneously.

The department’s goal is to ensure that by September 15, the first installment of ₹10,000 under the scheme reaches the bank accounts of identified beneficiaries.

Directions to Livelihood Workers

Through a state-wide video conference, the department instructed Jeevika workers to inform women members about every detail of the scheme. These workers are expected to guide beneficiaries during the registration and application process.

Additionally, senior officials from the Jeevika headquarters have been deployed to districts. They have been directed to coordinate closely with local administrations, set up camps, and ensure smooth implementation of the program.

Jeevika Membership Mandatory for Benefits

The government has clarified that only members of the Jeevika self-help groups are eligible to receive benefits. Currently, there are around 1.4 crore rural women registered with Jeevika. In addition, 3.85 lakh women from urban areas are also part of the network.

By linking the scheme with Jeevika, the government intends to strengthen the self-help group model while ensuring that financial assistance is provided to women actively engaged in grassroots economic activities.

Link with Social Security Pension Scheme

The state’s focus on welfare initiatives also includes recent enhancements to the social security pension program. The pension amount has been revised upward from ₹400 to ₹1,100.

Officials stated that for the third consecutive month, a state-level pension payment program will be organized on September 10. Camps will be set up at block and district levels to raise awareness among pension holders and ensure timely distribution of payments.

Significance of the Scheme Before Elections

The rollout of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana just before the Bihar elections highlights its political significance. By promising financial support to women, particularly in rural areas, the government is attempting to solidify its outreach among a critical voter base.

The scheme not only provides immediate monetary relief but also reinforces the government’s narrative of empowering women through livelihood opportunities and social security measures.

Expected Impact

With over 1.4 crore rural women and nearly 4 lakh urban women connected to Jeevika, the scheme has the potential to impact a vast number of households. Direct benefit transfers ensure transparency and reduce leakages, making the scheme more efficient.

The combination of awareness drives, registration camps, and strict coordination with district administrations is designed to ensure that the scheme reaches its intended beneficiaries on time.

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana marks another significant welfare initiative by the Bihar government. With the first installment of ₹10,000 scheduled to be credited from September 15, the scheme has the potential to provide both financial security and political mileage.

The simultaneous expansion of the social security pension program further underlines the government’s strategy of delivering direct benefits ahead of the elections. How effectively these measures influence voter sentiment will be evident in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls.
