Delhi Weather Update: Rain Hits NCR, More Showers Predicted by IMD; 29 Trains Delayed Due to Fog

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | A spell of overnight rain lashed DelhiNoidaGhaziabad, and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the region, forecasting light rain, smog, and shallow fog in the coming days. Delhi is likely to experience rain and thunderstorms until Sunday, according to the IMD.

Weather Advisory and Yellow Alert

  • Yellow Alert: IMD has urged caution across Delhi with the likelihood of continued light rainovercast skies, and foggy conditions during the early morning hours.
  • The city’s weather is expected to remain cool and cloudy, making it essential for residents to stay prepared for sudden temperature drops.

Impact of Dense Fog on Transportation

Delhi has been grappling with dense fog for the past few days, severely affecting visibility. The Indian Railways reported that 29 trains scheduled to arrive in Delhi were delayed on Thursday due to the poor weather conditions.

Temperature and Humidity Levels

  • Minimum Temperature: 12.05°C
  • Maximum Temperature: 21.41°C
  • Relative Humidity: 44%
  • Wind Speed: 44 km/h

The combination of high humidity and low temperatures has contributed to fog formation and reduced visibility across the region.

Delhi’s Air Quality: ‘Severe’ Levels Recorded

Current AQI Status

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) continues to range between ‘severe’ and ‘very poor’ categories, exacerbated by stagnant weather conditions.

  • Anand Vihar: AQI 404 (Severe)
  • Chandni Chowk: AQI 325 (Very Poor)
  • RK Puram: AQI 368 (Very Poor)
  • Rohini: AQI 431 (Severe)

AQI levels above 400 are considered hazardous and can severely impact individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.

IMD’s Predictions for the Coming Days

  • Rain Forecast: Light rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue in Delhi and NCR until Sunday.
  • Visibility Issues: Dense fog and smog are likely to persist, affecting transportation and daily commutes.
  • Health Advisory: Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, wear masks, and use air purifiers indoors.

With rain, dense fog, and severe air pollution, Delhi’s weather conditions pose challenges for both residents and commuters. The IMD’s yellow alert highlights the need for precautions, particularly for individuals sensitive to poor air quality and adverse weather.
